The application of indirect composite onlays in the restoration of severely broken down posterior teeth.

چکیده
Increasing interest has developed among dentists regarding alternatives to traditional full-coverage crowns for the restoration of extensively broken-down teeth that are both aesthetic and less destructive of remaining tooth structure. Indirectly fabricated resin composite onlays may offer a viable and cost-effective treatment option in such cases. This paper describes the clinical rationale for resin-based onlays, and includes a case report illustrating the author's experience with the technique to date.

Fracture Strength of Severely Damaged Primary Anterior Teeth after Restoration with Composite Resin and Resin-Modified Glass Ionomer Cement
Background and Aim: Restoration of primary anterior teeth with severe caries extending to the gingival margin is challenging for many clinicians especially in uncooperative children. Resin modified glass ionomer cements (RMGICs) can be suitable for use in such cases since they require fewer application steps than composite resins. This study aimed to assess the fracture strength of severely dam...
متن کاملPrevalence of Different Types of Crown Restorations after Root Canal Treatment of Posterior Teeth in Kerman, Iran
Background & Aims: Crown restoration of teeth after root canal treatment protects their remaining structure against breakage and infection of the root canal, and will replace the missing structure. This study was performed to identify the prevalence of different types of crown restorations after root canal treatment of posterior teeth in Kerman, Iran, in 2013. <stro...
متن کاملIndirect composite restorations luted with two different procedures: A ten years follow up clinical trial
OBJECTIVES The aim of this clinical trial was to evaluate posterior indirect composite resin restoration ten years after placement luted with two different procedures. STUDY DESIGN In 23 patients 22 inlays/onlays (Group A) were luted using a dual-cured resin composite cement and 26 inlays/onlays (Group B) were luted using a light cured resin composite for a total of 48 Class I and Class II in...
متن کاملDirect composite resin onlays: rationale and clinical application.
Ceramic full crowns can restore lost tooth structure, strength, and esthetics but remove about twice as much tooth as an onlay design. Onlay restorations can maintain facial enamel for long-term esthetics, preserve the dentogingival junction for optimum periodontal health, and use supragingival margins for predictable adhesive dentistry. Metallic onlays can create fracture strength 3 times that...
متن کاملPorcelain versus composite inlays/onlays: effects of mechanical loads on stress distribution, adhesion, and crown flexure.
This study used 2-D finite element modeling to simulate cuspal flexure and stresses at the surface and tooth-restoration interface of a restored maxillary molar using three restorative materials; the influence of four inlay/onlay preparation configurations on stress distribution within the complex was also investigated. A buccolingual cross-section of an intact molar was digitized and used to c...
